Ukraine calls states with nuclear weapons to disarmament

Ukraine urges the nuclear-weapon states to continue an active process of disarmament. This is stated in the statement of the Foreign Ministry on the 20th anniversary of Ukraine's rejection of nuclear weapons, the press service of the Foreign Ministry informs.

"Twenty years ago, January 14, 1994 in Moscow, the presidents of Ukraine, the U.S. and Russia signed the trilateral statement, fixing the agreement on the practical implementation of Ukraine's decision to abandon nuclear weapons. U.S. and Russia undertook on their own behalf and on behalf of the UK to provide security assurances to Ukraine in relation to the entry into force of the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms and the accession of Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons," press service says.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Ukraine has important humanitarian goal - the final destruction of all nuclear weapons worldwide. "We urge states, possessing these weapons of mass destruction, to continue an active process of nuclear disarmament, following the historic and unprecedented example of Ukraine," the Ministry summed up.
