Interior Ministry: No serious violations of public order on New Year's night in Ukraine

Police haven't registered any serious violation of public order during New Year celebrations in Ukraine, a posting on the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Web site on Wednesday reads, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

Police report that on December 31, 2013 there were almost 1,200 New Year festive events in Ukraine, which gathered nearly 730,700 people. "The most crowded events were held in Dnipropetrovsk region (43 events were attended by 165,000 people) and in Kharkiv region (almost 90,000 people participated in 34 events)," the posting reads.

Public order was ensured by more than 12,600 police officers. "There were no gross violations of public order during mass events," the posting said.

At the same time, the police report has no information about the number of people who took part in the New Year festive events on Kyiv's Independence Square.

The Interior Ministry also informed that on January 1, 2014, more than 424 New Year events are scheduled in Ukraine, which are to attract nearly 290,000 people. "Police officers ask citizens to remain calm and abide by laws, treat each other with tolerance, observe public order and help police officers perform their law enforcement duties," the posting said.
