Economy Ministry: EU will not reduce investments in Ukraine

Economy Ministry: EU will not reduce investments in Ukraine

The EU countries will not reduce the amount of investments in Ukraine due to non-signing of the Association agreement, head of the Economy Ministry department Yevhen Oliynykov told a roundtable, ForUm's correspondent reports.

"The EU countries have been investing since 1994, when the Association agreement did not exist even in plans for the future. The EU was investing even when legal field of Ukraine had been way worse than now," he said.

According to Oliynyk, there are no grounds to deduce that the EU countries will reduce the amount of investments just because Ukraine has not signed the Association agreement.

"Believe me, Europe does not invest into Ukraine to come with its products back to the European market. Investors are rather concerned about restricted access to the Russian market, as they used to enjoy certain privileges, provided by the CIS free trade area agreement. But the Russian issue is a highly charged and sensitive matter, and it cannot be settled in two minutes," the official pointed out.
