Putin: Length of stay of foreigners in Russia to be limited

Length of stay of foreigners on the territory of the Russian Federation without a particular purpose will be limited, a violator will be banned from entering the country for a period of 3 - 10 years, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said, filing the annual address to the Federal Assembly of Russia.

"We need to strengthen control over the purposes for entry of foreign nationals, as all civilized countries do. The state should know why and for how long a foreigner arrives in Russia. It is also necessary to solve the problem with foreigners who entered the country without visas and stayed long time in Russia without any purposes. Duration of their stay in the country should be limited," Putin said.

However, he stressed that for those who violate the rules of stay will be banned from entering the country for a period of 3 to 10 years.

According to him, these measures will put additional barriers to foreign nationals, who are engaged in shady, criminal activity or work illegally.
