Ukraine confirms its readiness to cooperate with new president of Transdniestria

Ukraine as a mediator in Transdniestrian conflict is open for cooperation with new leadership of Transdniestria, Foreign Ministry of Ukraine states.

"Ukraine is closely following the development of events in Transdniestrian region of Moldova, including recent presidential election," FM spokesman Oleh Voloshyn said.

According to him, Ukraine expects the situation to have positive effect on peaceful solving of the Transdniestrian conflict. He also added that solving of the given conflict remains among priorities of Ukrainian authorities' agenda. In this connection Kyiv intends to spare no effort in order to improve the political dialogue between Kishinev and Tiraspol.

"Ukraine proceeds from the necessity to focus on negotiations in the 5+2 format, official work of which has been restarted thanks to joint efforts of mediators, observers and participants of the conflict," Voloshyn underlined.

On December 25 the second tour of presidential election took place in Transdniestria. The winner is the opposition candidate Evgen Shevchuk.
