The People's Committee for the Defense of Ukraine is to hold a rally
outside the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at 0900 on Tuesday, September 7, Interfax-Ukraine informed.
The
rally participants will protest against the increase in tariffs on gas,
heating and hot water for households, Ukraine's commitments to the IMF,
in particular the pledge to increase the retirement age for women, and
the agreement to extend the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in
Crimea. The organizers of the rally called on the citizens to join them
to express their protest against the policies of the current
authorities.
As reported, a number of Ukrainian political parties
and non-governmental organizations set up the People's Committee for
Ukraine's Defense on May 10, 2010. The committee is made up of the
Ukrainian Social-Democratic Party, the European Party of Ukraine, the
Batkivschyna Party, the Popular Rukh of Ukraine, the Fatherland Defense
Party, the Reforms and Order Party, the People's Self-Defense Party, the
all-Ukrainian Svoboda (Freedom) Association, the Ukrainian Party and a
number of non-governmental organizations.
