Preparations for local elections on October 31 enter final stage

The Central Election Commission has approved the form and color of voting ballots for the election of deputies to the Crimean parliament, local councils and the heads of villages, towns, and cities, which is scheduled for October 31, 2010.

Ballots will have nine colors - from white and light gray to brown.

The commission also approved the procedure for the registration of official observers from Ukrainian non-governmental organizations, foreign states, and international organizations for local elections, UKRINFORM reported.

As reported, the Ukrainian parliament will convene for an extraordinary session on August 30 to consider a bill of amendments to the law on the election of deputies to the Crimean parliament, local councils and the heads of villages, towns, and cities, which was adopted by parliament on July 5.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said earlier that he would not sign the law if his amendments were not taken into account.
