Eight opposition groups formed united parliamentary opposition

A united parliamentary opposition has been created in Ukraine.

"This parliamentary opposition will be part of a large opposition movement that is currently being created in our state," BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko said, adding that eight parliamentary groups have joined the opposition.

"We have united today for one goal – to defend our common values, protect our independence, national self-identity, culture, history, language and European course. And as we’ve realized, we need to protect freedom of speech, which was one of achievements of the past five years. It consolidates us today," Yulia Tymoshenko believes.

Today representatives of the opposition groups also signed an agreement on creating a coordinating council of the united parliamentary opposition.

The statement was signed by: Yulia Tymoshenko on behalf of Batkivshchyna; Serhiy Sobolev – Reforms and Order Party; Borys Tarasyuk - People's Movement of Ukraine [Rukh]; Yuriy Lutsenko - People's Self-Defense; Volodymyr Stretovych - Christian Democratic Union; Mykola Katerynchuk - European Party of Ukraine; Olena Shustik - Ukrainian Social Democratic Party; and Yuriy Karmazin - Motherland Defenders Party.
