Finance ministry sees no problems over financing of presidential elections

"Despite non-adoption of the law on the national budget for 2010 there will be no problems over the financing of the presidential elections," finance ministry spokesperson Larysa Khomutova said, National radio reported.

The government ordered the ministry to finance election costs in January - February 2010, she said. Andriy Mahera, deputy chair of the Central Election Commission, recently said Verkhovna Rada could pass a special law on financing the presidential polls.

The Rada returned the 2010 state budget for revision to the government on November 20. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said the budget might be ready in the latter half of February.
