President: Only through Constitutional reform we can overcome parliamentary crisis

President Viktor Yushchenko is assured that only through alteration of the Constitution it is possible to overcome the parliamentary crisis in Ukraine, he said at a talk show "Freedom of Speech" on ICTV channel, according to the press office.

"Today we have a protracted parliamentary crisis built on intrigues", said Victor Yushchenko. "... We are all well aware that in the Parliament there is no parliamentary majority. To overcome this situation we must improve the Constitution”, he said.

He reminded that his suggested alterations to the Basic Law are based on the 188 critical remarks made by the Venice Commission. Yushchenko also drew attention to the fact that the Constitutional Court has partially or sometimes fully taken into account most of the President’s suggestions and criticism of the new election law.
