There are grounds for introducing quarantine measures in Kyiv

"Today we can already say that the situation is improving - in Kyiv there are half as many registered cases of people with the flu and acute respiratory illnesses," reads the statement released by the press service of First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, who heads the State Emergency Anti-epidemic and Anti-epizootic Commission.

The press service reminds that during its meeting on Saturday, November 7, the State Commission passed a decision to step-up measures to fight the flu epidemic in all regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, where the number of sick is approaching the epidemic threshold.

The particular, these measures involve limiting mass gatherings.

The ministry said in a news release late on Monday that about 1.3 million people have contracted flu and respiratory illness, including 62,350 in the past 24 hours. Another 52,742 people have been hospitalized, and 334 people are being treated in intensive care.

The country's foreign minister, Petro Poroshenko, said on Tuesday Ukraine has received about $3 million in foreign aid to fight the pandemic.

"We are grateful to the countries that have helped Ukraine. We have received humanitarian cargoes worth $3 million," Petro Poroshenko said, adding hospitals across the country have been provided with medicines and medical masks.
