No grounds to postpone presidential election date, says premier

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that there are currently no grounds to postpone presidential elections in the country. She said this during her working visit to Uzhgorod on Saturday, UKRINFORM reported.

“I want to emphasize once again that every region has its own epidemic threshold. Quarantine is imposed in any region in which the disease rate reaches its peak. So this is an objective approach that has no subjective element, so there are no grounds to cancel the elections,” Tymoshenko said.

The secretariat of the Ukrainian president is already considering options for postponing the presidential election date from January until May 2010 if a state of emergency is imposed in the country due to the flu epidemic.

Tymoshenko also said that the situation with the epidemic of flu and acute respiratory infections in Zakarpattia region is stabilizing.
