Naftogaz to invite foreign experts to justify transit cost

National joint stock company Naftogaz of Ukraine has decided to involve international advisers to determine a reasonable price for the transit of natural gas by the territory of Ukraine, the company's press service reported.

The company says in the past few years the mass media spread a lot of expert statements on the optimal tariff for the transit of natural gas by the territory of Ukraine, and those assessments have a rather broad range, UkrInform reported.

"Beside this, consultations with European experts in the gas transport industry repeatedly confirmed economic expediency of the tariff, which was fixed in the January 19, 2009 agreement," Naftogaz of Ukraine says.

In this connection, Naftogaz decided to involve an independent and prestigious western consulting company to provide those services, including both auditing companies of the Big Four and the world's leading advisers on tariffing services in power industry, like Arthur D.Little.

Naftogaz of Ukraine hopes to receive a final report on the analytical work before the end of 2009.

Naftogaz of Ukraine and Russia's Gazprom signed contracts on the supply and transit of natural gas to Europe. According to the contracts, this year the price of gas transit will be USD 1.7 per 1,000 cubic meters pumped along 100 kilometers. In 2010, the price of the transit is to increase to USD 2.4 - 2.6 per 1,000 cubic meters over 100 km.
