Ukraine's population decreasing


As of January 1, 2009 the number of Ukraine's resident population was 45,963,359 people (after 46,192.3 as of January 1, 2008, and 45,881,048 as of May 1, 2009), the State Statistics Committee reported.

The number of women exceeded the number of men by 3,593.495 (24,788,427 women against 21,184,932 men).

The number of urban population made 31,331,587 people (after 31,413.1 as of January 1, 2008 and 31,294,756 as of May 1, 2009), rural population - 14,631,772 (after 14,779.2 as of January 1, 2009 and 14,586,292 as of May 1, 2009).

As of January 1, 2009 the age of 1,425 Ukrainians was over 100 years, including 278 men and 1,138 women.

As of January 1, 2009 the average age of a Ukrainian was 40.1 years, 37.3 years for men and 42.5 for women.
