Putin wants to postpone the meeting with Tymoshenko

Russia has postponed the intergovernmetal consultation with Ukraine in connection with the adoption of the memorandum on modernization of Ukrainian gas transit system, signed by the EU and Ukraine.

The decision was made at the session of Security Council of Russia by the president and premier.

President Medvedev said that the content of the memorandum "sets a  number of questions." "To determine the consequences of this document we need to postpone the consulations," he added.

Premier Putin supported the decision.

Putin noted that the Russian side had examined the document very thoroughly. "The key factor of the development of the Ukrainian GTS is th volume of gas, which is connected with the necessity to return the loan, but the gas can come only from Russia," he said.

In this connection Putin agreed that they need time "to think about the consequences of the current situation."
