EU, Ukraine Joint declaration to strengthen EU's energy security

Joint declaration is start of great investment work to update Ukraine's GTS and strengthen EU's energy security, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner commented on the joint declaration signed in Brussels following the International Investment Conference on the Modernization of Ukraine's Gas Transit System.

EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs noted at the conference that the European Union, in frames of its updated energy policy, is searching for ways to diversify the sources of supply and transit of energy resources. He underlined that implementation of Ukraine's declared intention to implement the EU energy directives by 2011 should demonstrate the country's readiness for a wider integration with the European energy market.
