Ukraine should not postpone dialogue with IMF, Yuschenko says

Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has said delaying Ukraine's dialogue with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is a "big mistake."

"Ukraine has been dragging out the dialog with the IMF for too long... this is a big mistake," the president said in an interview with reporters in Brussels on Thursday, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

The Ukrainian authorities should understand that Ukraine will not be able to emerge from the crisis without an anti-crisis plan, which depends on cooperation with the IMF.

The president also said the anti-crisis package is a document that could now unite the Ukrainian authorities.

Unless the dialog with the IMF is restored, the world financial institutions will not give their approval to any projects, including those on the modernization of Ukraine's gas transportation system, Yuschenko said.
