President's Secretariat drafting proposals to amend election laws

On order of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, the judicial services of his secretariat are drafting proposals to amend laws on elections to parliament, regional, city and district councils.

The amendments provide for introduction of voting on open tickets of candidate parties, says Presidential Secretariat Head Viktor Baloha, National radio reported.

In his words, the relevant bills will be tabled in parliament soon. Baloha noted that voting on open party tickets is called to return to power the real democracy, as the current election order restricts the right to election to a legislative body, which takes membership of some or other political party, or at least its approval to be put on the ticket.
