Ukraine to pay for Russian gas with Moscow money


In case of signing a relevant agreement between Ukraine and Russia,the Russian loan of USD 5 billion is meant for payment for natural gas, which Naftogaz Ukrainy buys from Gazprom,acting Finance Minister Ihor Umanskytold UNIAN.
 
“This loan will be meant for gas purchase”, Umansky said.
 
At the same time he noted that as of today Ukraine discusses a possibility of the World Bank loan and attracting of other loan resources for the same purposes. According to him, Ukraine alsonegotiates with Gazprom onalternatives regarding the solving of gas payment issue.

The Russian finance minister said on Tuesday that Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko had officially asked Russia for a $5 billion loan.

"We are holding consultations with Ukrainian Finance Ministry officials," said Alexei Kudrin, who is also a deputy prime minister. "No decision has been made yet.
