Russia: Ukraine asked to consider $5 bln loan

Ukraine has asked Russia about the possibility of getting a $5 billion loan to help cover its budget deficit, the Russian Finance Ministry said on Monday, Reuters reported.

"Last week bilateral consultations took place at the Russia Finance Ministry with the representatives of the Ukrainian Finance Ministry, at their request," the ministry said.

"The Ukrainian side expressed a request to evaluate the possibility of Russia giving a loan of $5 billion," the ministry said, adding that it had asked its Ukrainian counterpart to present more information about the economic situation there.

"Officially, no request from Ukraine with regards to the giving of the aforementioned loan has been received," the ministry added.
