Tymoshenko met with President of the European Commission J. M. Barroso


Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko held a working breakfast with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso on Saturday, Cabibnet's press office reported.

During the meeting the sides discussed the state and prospects of cooperation of Ukraine and the European Union. Special attention was focused on the ways of strengthening the energy security. In particular, the matter concerned the stability of natural gas supply and transit. The President of the European Commission thanked for the responsible and constructive position, as well as the decisive role of Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko in resolving the January gas conflict. Jose Manuel Barroso informed Yulia Tymoshenko about his visit to Moscow and the outcomes of talks with President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister of Russia Volodymyr Putin. 

Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized the fundamental importance for Ukraine of the deepening of strategic cooperation with the EU in all directions of energy supply (natural gas, power industry…). The Head of Ukrainian Government and President of the European Commission expressed confidence in success of holding the international investment conference on modernization of gas transportation system, slated for March 23, in Brussels and also stated about its importance.

Jose Manuel Barroso has invited Yulia Tymoshenko to visit Brussels in the near future.
