Ukraine - EU Troika confirm dynamic of relations after gas crisis

The natural gas crisis did not tell on the level and dynamic of relations between Ukraine and the European Union, the participants in the Ukraine - EU Troika meeting in Prague emphasized, Ukrinform reports.

The meeting covered prospects for Ukraine's further integration in the EU energy space, particularly, Ukraine's accession to the Energy Community Treaty and the holding of an international conference on modernization of Ukraine's gas transportation system on March 23, 2009, the press service of the Ukrainian foreign affairs ministry reported.

The meeting also touched on implementation of the agreement on liberalization of visa regulations between Ukraine and the EU. Ukraine raised the question of lifting pay for visas to Ukrainian citizens as the first move on the path of further liberalization of visa regulations between Ukraine and the EU. Special attention was paid to the questions of practical progress in the Ukraine - EU visa free dialogue.

Priorities in relations between Ukraine and the EU for 2009 were agreed at the ministerial level. It was emphasized that the year must become the first in implementation of political association and economic integration before signing the Ukraine - EU association agreement.

Special attention was paid to the key role of the new practical instrument that, starting on 2009, must replace the Ukraine - EU Action Plan, the MFA press service reported.
