Tymoshenko: I am proud Ukraine has come out of the gas crisis as a winner

Ukraine has managed to come out of the gas dispute by signing gas contracts, advantageous for the country. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko announced on opening a Cabinet's sitting on Wednesday.

“I am proud Ukraine has come out of the crisis with dignity, has come out as a winner and obtained perfect conditions which, in the face of financial and economic crisis, give our enterprises an opportunity to preserve their competitiveness,” Premier said.

Yulia Tymoshenko underlined our state hadn’t only led successful negotiations with the Russian Federation in gas issues but could have resumed “its good name of a transitor of the Russian natural gas to Europe”: “We have a desire, Ukraine could feel pride for its achievements, for restoring its good name instead of dishonouring each other, as it usually happens”.

Besides, the Head of Government called “unique” the price for supplies of Russian natural gas to Ukraine. “I say so, as I am well aware under which conditions all the other states dealing with the Russian Federation receive gas,” Yulia Tymoshenko underlined and added, Ukraine should learn to rejoice at its victories.

Moreover, Premier considers a great progress rejecting from mediators in gas relations between Ukraine and Russia and signing direct contracts between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Gazprom. She expressed satisfaction that corruption schemes had been left behind.

The Head of Government opined, the reached gas understandings concerning gas price for Ukrainian consumers and rates for the transit would enable modernizing of the national gas transport system, re-equipping of it as well as would give an opportunity to introduce energy-saving technologies in Ukraine.

“These are really unique conditions for Ukraine. Strange as it may seem, but people who are well aware of the achieved results nowadays dare to declare the interests of Ukraine are violated in some way,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.
