In 2009 a Russian gas
price for Ukraine amounts to USD 228.8 per one thousand cubic meters. This was disclosed
by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko at a press conference. “We have calculated by formulas
taking into account a discount the gas price for Ukrainian consumers for 2009. The
price won’t be different quarterly but will be the same for all year long,
since January 1, 2009. This gas price will amount to USD 228.8 per one thousand
cubic meters at the border with Russia,” the Head of Government said, government portal reported.
Yulia Tymoshenko
reminded that Ukraine had obtained a 20 percent discount of the market gas price
and also a special gas price used for technical transit needs. In that way, the
part of Memorandum signed by the prime ministers of Ukraine and Russia on
October 2, 2008 has been implemented.
According to Yulia Tymoshenko, such price – is
adequate for the transition period to market prices. “Transferring to market
prices, to the formula pricing basis ensures another stage of the energy and
political independence of Ukraine. It is very important for Ukraine to perceive
that its independence becomes stronger,” the Prime Minister highlighted.
