President, Premier speak for Ukraine-Russia-EU gas Summit


President Victor Yushchenko stands for holding a trilateral Ukraine-Russia-EU Summit to discuss the dispute about transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory to Europe, president's press office reproted.

According to him, because Russia is a party to the dispute and therefore may not hold such a summit at its territory, good places for the meeting could become Prague, as capital of the presiding in the EU Czech Republic, or Brussels, where EU Commission headquarters is situated.

In her turn, premier Yulia Tymoshenko said that Ukraine supports initiative of Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek to hold a high-level energy summit of the European import and transit countries of the Russian gas.

At her meeting with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Serhii Stanishev
the Head of Ukrainian Government said that summit on the gas conflict should be held on neutral territory, “We’d like this summit to be held in a capital of any European state, not involved in the conflict to have some basis for free negotiations”.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed that Ukraine is ready to provide all necessary documents concerning the gas issue and gas transit to Europe. Besides, according to Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine is also ready to sign a technical contract with the Russian Federation. “We are ready to spare no effort to get gas flowing to Europe,” the Head of Government stressed.
