Ukraine hopes to sign Association Agreement with EU in 6-8 months

Ukraine hopes to sign the Association Agreement with the EU in 6-8 months, when Sweden will preside over the European Union.

According to UNIAN , President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko claimed this at a meeting with King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf, who is paying a state visit in Ukraine.

Victor Yushchenko pointed out that Ukraine and Sweden “enjoy a high harmony of the bilateral relations”.

According to him, today he and the King of Sweden carried out extremely useful talks in a friendly atmosphere, having discussed, in particular, the European aspirations of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian President emphasized the important role of Sweden in the integration of Ukraine in the European structures. He pointed out that Foreign Ministers of Sweden and Poland put forward the initiative of “eastern partnership”.

“We hope that the nearest months, especially the first months of 2009, will be aimed at filling this European initiative with contents”, Victor Yushchenko said.

He added that Ukraine is interested in developing ties with the Swedish business, and that a Ukrainian-Swedish business forum will take place in Kyiv on Wednesday morning.

In his turn, the King of Sweden noted that his visit indicates a high level of relations between Ukraine and Sweden.

Carl XVI Gustaf expressed a hope that the two countries will broaden their ties in future.
