BYuT proposes its variant of access barrier to parliament

BYuT proposes its variant of access barrier to parliament

Member of parliament Serhiy Teryokhin (BYuT faction) submitted for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft law “On Introducing Amendments into the Law of Ukraine “On Elections of Members of Parliament” (concerning the barrier that a party has to go through to enter the parliament).

He said in an interview with UIAN that the draft law stipulates to increase the barrier at parliamentary elections to 10%.

S.Teryokhin stressed that the BYuT faction had “a positive discussion” on this issue.

According to the MP, the 10% barrier will help create a two-party system in Ukraine. “Small factions will not be bought” and will not quit the coalition, the MP stressed.

As UNIAN reported earlier, since the year 2006, a party has go through a 3% barrier to enter the parliament. Earlier the barrier made 4%.
