Ukraine ranks 118 by level of corruption among states worldwide

Ukraine ranks 118 by level of corruption among states worldwide, the information and analysis portal Georgia Online cited the survey outcomes held by Transparency International, an international organization addressing corruption.

Estonia is perceived to be the least corrupt country among the former CIS countries. Latvia and Lithuania rank 51and are followed by Georgia (79), Armenia (99), Ukraine (118) and Russia (145). Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan rank 150. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are perceived to be the most corrupt.

Denmark is named the least corrupt country in the world. It is followed by Finland, New Zealand, Singapore and Sweden.

Transparency International defines corruption as the abuse of public office for private gain and measures the degree to which corruption is perceived to exist among a country`s public officials and politicians. It is a composite index, drawing on 14 polls and surveys from 12 independent institutions, which gathered the opinions of business people and country analysts. Only 180 of the world`s 193 countries are included in the survey, due to an absence of reliable data from the remaining countries.
