Government endorses plan for developing relations with foreign Ukrainians


The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has endorsed a plan of urgent measures for 2008-2009 on developing relations with Ukrainian citizens living abroad in order to retain, protect and popularize cultural achievements of the Ukrainian Diaspora in the world.

Proposals on improving a Ukrainian law on retaining, protecting and popularizing cultural achievements of the Ukrainian Diaspora will be offered by October 2008.

The plan foresees the production and broadcasting of respective TV and radio programs, the consideration of the issue on creating a museum entitled "Ukrainians in the World," the erection of a number of monuments, in particular, to Mykhailo Hrushevsky in Chelm, Poland, Pylyp Orlyk in Belarus and Taras Shevchenko in Vilnius, Lithuania, and assistance in holding Ukrainian festivals abroad. Cabinet's press service reports.
