Yushchenko asks government to increase living wage

The President’s Secretariat of Ukraine proposes the Cabinet to consider the level of social standards in the budget for 2008. First deputy head of the President’s Secretariat and President’s representative in the Cabinet Olexander Shlapak stated, ForUm’s correspondent reports.

Shlapak has noted that first of all it is necessary to reconsider the level of the living wage. According to him, it is connected with the raise of inflation.

Shlapak has reminded that for today the living wage is UAH 460 in a month. “According to our estimates, it must be UAH 496,” he said.

Shlapak has assured that the raise of this number will not influence the inflation raise.

At the same time, deputy head of the President’s Secretariat has noted that in this situation, first of all, it is necessary to take care of socially unprotected strata of population.
