Emergency Ministry elaborates project to establish radioactive waste management fund


The first stage of the state-run specialized enterprise Vector for radioactive-waste disposal (500, 000 ton capacity) is planned to be opened in the Chornobyl exclusion zone in April, Emergency Minister Volodymyr Shandra said. Cabinet's press service reports.

He specified the matter concerns the radioactive-waste disposal, but not the nuclear fuel waste.

The Minister also said the Emergency Ministry elaborated and coordinated with the Cabinet of Ministers a bill on the radioactive waste management. The document will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, and the Radioactive Waste Management Fund will be set up in case the instrument is adopted.

The Fund budget will be forming by means of allocations of enterprises which get radioactive waste in the production process.
