PM: Ukraine will not buy gas higher than USD 300


Ukraine will return 1.4 milliard cubic meters of Russian gas, consumed in January-February, in summer time during pumping gas to underground storages. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko said that today at the press conference, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

According to her, the total gas volume, consumed in 2008 by Ukraine, will be bought at USD 179.5 per thousand cubic meter.

“We borrowed Russian gas and will return it in summer during pumping to gas storages. We will return our debt with Central Asian gas,” PM said.

At the same time, chairman of Naftohaz Ukraine Oleh Dubina noted that Naftohaz and Gazprom signed agreement on order and terms of return of 1.4 milliard cubic meters of gas, consumed in January-February of the current year. In particular 700 million cubic meters of gas will be returned in the second quarter and another 700 million cubic meters of gas will be returned in the third quarter.

Tymoshenko noted that, signed agreement totally provides Ukraine with gas balance in 2008. She also noted the absolute victory is removal of mediator “UkrGazEnergo”.

“In 2008 Ukraine will consume gas at USD 179.5 per thousand cubic meters. Ukraine will not consume such volumes of gas which would cost more than USD 300,” Tymoshenko added.
