Justice Ministry issues over 5,600 new birth certificates due to adoption in 2007

Last year organs for registration of civil status acts under the Justice Ministry issued Ukrainian citizens over 5,600 new birth certificates due to adoption. The acts of adoption were registered with regards to minor children as well as citizens of full age, the Ministry's press service said. Cabinet's press service reports.

However, these statistical data do not reflect the total number of adopted children in 2007. As the ministry noted, the matter concerns only the requests for respective changes in birth certificates.

At the same time, the ministry points at certain tendencies seen from these statistics. Particularly, new birth certificates were requested by citizens or their representatives who were adopted by Ukrainian citizens. This makes almost 69% of the total number of adoption cases registered last year.

Children (minor and full age) adopted by citizens of foreign states (excluding CIS states) who received new birth certificates account for about 30%.
