President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has opened the first sitting of the National Constitutional Council. ForUm’s correspondent reports.

According to Yushchenko, the events that take place today in politics, in particular in the parliament, indicate that basic contradictions which have not been solved “in the context of changes and additions” to the Constitution still exist.

The President considers that Ukraine “is torn up” by political instability.

Yushchenko has reminded that the aim of the National Constitutional Council is the adoption of the Constitution. “I would like to stress that we need competent Constitution, the Constitution of freedom,” he noted. The President is sure that today all political forces and the society understand that the Constitutional reform must be continued.
