The meeting of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has started in Moscow. The meeting is held in one-to-one format.
In the beginning of the meeting, Viktor Yushchenko has stressed that it is necessary to discuss a wide range of questions, which are very important for both sides.
He has noted that only the Ukraine-Russia Action plan till 2009, which is planned to be signed today, foresees 26 issues of different spheres of the bilateral cooperation.
“We are ready for this dialog”, Viktor Yushchenko said, adding that Ukraine holds the position that Russia has been and will be a strategic partner for Ukraine.
In his turn, Viktor Putin has noted that there are many topics for discussion. He has pointed out the necessity to discuss the issue of turnover between two countries, and the cooperation in the spheres of aircraft and space. Also, the President of the PF has noted the necessity to perform the decision concerning the frontier cooperation at the political level.
Besides, Viktor Putin has also congratulated Viktor Yushchenko, noting that despite the internal political situation in Ukraine, the visit of the Ukrainian President to Russia has taken place.
After the meeting the sitting of the Ukrainian-Russian intergovernmental commission will be held.
Also, the Head of the Ukrainian State will hold the meeting with the chief editor of the leading Russian mass media agency “Itar-Tass”.
On February 13 Viktor Yushchenko will meet with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Russia, visit the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Moscow and lay flowers to Taras Shevchenko monument
