Justice Ministry: NATO Membership Action Plan entry letter is valid


The Justice Ministry of Ukraine confirmed the validity of the letter addressed by the Ukrainian President, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister to the NATO Secretary General to ask for consideration of prospects for Ukraine's accession to the NATO Membership Action Plan, the Ministry press service reported. Cabinet's press service reports.

The Justice Ministry explained that the letter is not an act of law, it is not tantamount to any international commitments of Ukraine, and thus cannot be considered as an appeal for NATO membership.

The more so that the issues of participation in any interstate unions, organizations, or collective security systems may be discussed at a national referendum.

On January 15, Ukraine addressed NATO member-countries with the request for examining the possibility of her joining the Membership Action Plan during the Bucharest (Romania) Summit in April.
