Yushchenko: Constitutional council must become consolidating body


National constitutional council must become consolidating body of all political forces. President Viktor Yushchenko stated that today in scope of the meeting of political forces leaders.

Viktor Yushchenko explained his view of constitutional reform which foresees draft version of the Constitution at National referendum. Participants of the meeting discussed formation of national constitutional council in details.

President informed that in total more than 230 candidatures to the composition of National constitutional council are submitted by parliamentary factions, VRU of Crimea, regional, Kyiv and Sevastopol city councils, National Academy of Ukraine, Ukrainian defense public organizations and other unions of Ukrainians.

Four out of five parliamentary forces submitted their candidatures. Party of Regions has not submitted its candidatures yet, having explained that at first it is necessary to hold a meeting and only then to submit candidatures.

Viktor Yushchenko noted that by means of formation of National constitutional council he does not intend to change Constitutions for one political force or person. Yushchenko noted that such collective approach in changing of constitution has uniting potential.

“We must do everything possible in order National constitutional council to become consolidating body in which representatives of all political forces will work together,” he said.
