Yushchenko named date of Ukraine’s accession to the WTO

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko is sure that on February 5 Ukraine will accede to the WTO. He said that today at the session of National Security and Defense Council sitting, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“After all formal negotiations are completed we are waiting for session of General council. We have no doubts that on February 5 positive decision will be adopted and Ukraine will become a member of the WTO,” the President said.

Moreover, the President noted that Ukraine starts negotiations on formation of free trade zone. “It is a big work for Ukraine in the context of European integration,” he added. The President expressed hope that Ukraine would pass this negotiation process in 2008.

As a reminder, on January 16, 2008 Ukraine and the EU reached compromise on export duties, having overcome last obstacle on the way to the WTO.
