Yatsenyuk considers Constitution as “sacred cow”

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine considers that changes in the Constitution of Ukraine could be introduced only on the basis of consensus among political forces. He stated at the conference “European democratic achievements and development of the election legislation in Ukraine” on Wednesday in Kyiv.

According to him, the Constitution can’t be changed for some political force of political situation. “It (Constitution) is sacred cow,” VRU chairman said.

At the same time he notes that initiative of the President of Ukraine to form the National Constitutional Council for elaboration of new Constitution is very important and reasonable step.

According to Yatsenyuk, by taking part in the work of this council, different political forces can express their positions on some questions, and the council itself will become “good ground” for search of consensus among different political players.
