Kerch channel is almost cleaned

Main works on cleaning of Kerch channel and neighboring area of water of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov from oil products after shipwrecks on November 11 are almost completed. The assistant of the head of main department of Emergency Ministry in Crimea Volodymyr Ivanov informed on Saturday.

“Main works are almost completed,” he said in particular.

Since the shipwrecks about 5400 tons of mixture of oil products with sand and algae have been gathered from the coast in Tuzla island, Kerch and Azov coastlines.

According to Ivanov, about 50 persons are still monitoring and collecting separate spots and mixtures of oil products in all regions of pollution.

As a reminder, on November 11 the heavy storm became a reason for accident in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov: about twenty ships were shipwrecked. As a result of catastrophe, about 2 thousand tons of black oil leaked in to the sea and about 7 thousand of sulphur are underwater in sank ship.

Ukrainian ecologists warn that consequences of oil damage in Kerch channel will last for several years under the most optimistic scenario.
