Ukraine waits for invitation to WTO in January

Ukraine can be invited to the WTO in the first half of January 2008. Deputy head of the President’s Secretariat Olexander Shlapak stated on Friday.

Shlapak said: “Year 2008 will be the year of Ukraine’s joining the WTO and in December the last sitting of the working group on affirmation of the report on Ukraine will take place.” At the same time, he has emphasized that Ukraine has chances to become the WTO member by the end of this year. According to him, if it takes place, then in the first half of 2008 “we hope that the General council of the WTO will invite Ukraine to this respectable organization.”

Earlier it was announced that from November 30 till December 3, 2007 the working group of the WTO was going to consider the application of Ukraine for the joining organization.
