Government approved research program of Holodomor in Ukraine


Cabinet of Ukraine approved action plan on 75 commemoration of the Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine for 2007-2008. According to this plan, negotiations with Russian concerning submission of archive documents on Holodomors 1921-1923, 1932-1933 and 1946-1947, are going to be held. The resolution of the government of November 21 is publicized on the VRU web-site.

Local authorities are charged to contribute to high level of social and medical care of people who suffered the Holodomors.

The plan also foresees development of project of State national-cultural program on research of the Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine; preparation of National and regional books of victims memory of the Holodomor; arrangement of revelation of places of mass burial and separate graves of Holodomors victims.

Moreover, according to this plan, in 2008 the monument to Holodomor victims will be set in Washington. The work on set of monuments to Holodomor victims will be continued in other foreign countries.

At the same time, local authorities are charged to dismantle monuments of people who were involved in organization of the Holodomor; to rename streets and parks, related with names of such people. In Kyiv there will be a memorial to memory of Holodomor victims and monument to American researcher of the Holodomor James Mace.

As a reminder, according to the President Viktor Yushchenko’s decree of November 24, 2007, next year is proclaimed the Year of Commemoration of Holodomor victims.
