RF does not recognize Holodomor as genocide in Ukraine


Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation considers that announcement of the Holodomor 1932-1933 as genocide towards Ukrainian people is “one-sided perversion of history to play up to modern market policy-ideological directions.”

It is said in comments of department Foreign Ministry of the RF concerning hooligan actions of the representatives of Eurasian union during exhibition, dedicated to victims memory of the Holodomor in Ukraine 1932-11933, taken place on November 17 in Moscow. Foreign Ministry of Russian condemned such actions of representatives of the Eurasian union.

At the same time, Foreign Ministry of the RF noted that subject of famine of 1930s in the Soviet Union, victims of which were people of many nationalities, including Ukrainians, Russians, Kazakhs and other peoples of USSR, becomes a subjects of possible speculations from some political circles in Ukraine.

According to Foreign Ministry, “announcement of tragic events of those years as act of genocide towards Ukrainian people is one-sided perversion of history to play up to modern market policy-ideological directions. It insults memory of victims of other nationalities killed in 1932—1933 in the USSR.”

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko in November 2006 submitted a draft bill “On the Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine” that defines the Holodomor as genocide against Ukrainian people. It was adopted by the VRU.

On November 1, 2007 UNESCO adopted a resolution “On memory immortalization of victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine”

11 countries recognized the Holodomor as genocide against Ukrainian people.
