Yushchenko: Victory of democratic forces will increase Ukraine’s integration to EU and NATO


President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko considers that the victory of the democratic forces at early parliamentary elections will create new possibilities for rapid integration of Ukraine to the EU and NATO. He said that yesterday during the meeting with Defense Minister of the USA Robert Gates who had come to Ukraine for participation in session of the Council of Defense Ministers of South-East countries of Europe.

Yushchenko has informed the Minister about development of inner political situation in Ukraine after elections. They also discussed perspectives of development of Ukrainian-American political dialogue, cooperation in military sphere and also question on cooperation of Ukraine with Iraqi and Afghanistan.

Viktor Yushchenko thanked American side for participation in session of Ministers Council. “We would like to thank all who participated in this session,” Yushchenko said, having noted significance of this meeting in Ukraine.

In turn, Gates appreciated the session and also participation of Ukraine in Council of Defense Ministries of South-East Europe. He expressed satisfaction by the session and meeting with Ukraine’s Defense Minister Anatoly Hrytsenko.

The US minister thanked Ukrainian side for peacemaking activity in Kosovo and informed about perspective of antimissile defence of the USA in Czech Republic and Poland.
