Yanukovych pays visit to Moscow to solve gas problem


Today on October 9 Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych pays official visit to Moscow. Yanukovych is expected to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yanukovych will also meet with the head of Russian government Viktor Zubkov to discuss arrangements of session of Intergovernmental commission “Yushchenko-Putin”.

The visit also foresees signing of agreements concerning paying off debts on gas supply to Ukraine.

According to “Gasprom”, scheme of paying off debt of economic jubjects –“RodUkrEnergo” and “UkrGasEnergo” was agreed yesterday between Fuel and Energy Minister of Ukraone Yury Boyko and chairman of board of “Gasprom” Aleksey Miller.

In scope of the meeting with his Russian colleague Viktor Zubkov, the parties will deal with gas issue.

As a reminder, on October 2 “Gasprom” announced that it would reduce gas supply to Ukraine in case of debt outstanding (USD 1.3 milliard).

Ukrainian government disproved this information on debt, having stated that debt is not national and amount of debt is exaggerated.

Yesterday President Viktor Yushchenko charged Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych to hold negotiations on gas issue in Moscow.
