The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko determined strategic goals concerning preparation in connection with 75th anniversary of Holodomor in 1932-1933 by two directions – international and national. He told today, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.
“When we speak about international direction I think we should start with that Holodomor is a painful page not only of the Ukrainian nation but also of the world history. Memory of great famine belongs not only to Ukraine,” the President said.
The main objective on this question Yushchenko named the world recognition of Holodomor as Genocide. “I believe the basis for world recognition will be our inner consent on this question,” he said, adding that nowadays two thirds of the Ukrainian population supported the law on recognition of Holodomor as Genocide.
Yushchenko promised to address the leaders of the European countries to ask to contribute to recognition of the Holodomor as genocide in the world.
Speaking about national direction, Yushchenko noted that it is necessary to create national memory book where memory that did not still die about every person-victim of Holodomor will be put down.
Yushchenko also considers it is necessary to return all documents of 1932-1933 to Ukraine.
