President Yushchenko considers the placing of US
anti-missile defense system in Eastern Europe to be stabilizing peaceful force
in the region.
“There are two possible versions of explanation of
this question. The first one is bilateral American-Russian relations, which I
don’t want to dwell on now. The second version involves question of a European
nature, I would say of a collective nature,” the President said in an interview
to “Euronews.”
The President explained that development of any
defense model in any region of the world, including Europe, strengthens foundations
of the world.
“If every territory, every state has defense systems,
I underline – defense, then interests of peace will benefit,” he said.
The Head of the State noted that divergence of views
of the Prime Minister and the President regarding deployment of the US systems
in Europe cannot be considered as a proof of growing opposition between two
branches of power.
