Scheffer hopes for mature relations between NATO and Ukraine


NATO Secretary General Yaap de Hoop Scheffer hopes that in the next two years Ukraine and NATO will advance considerably in the way of realization of “Ukraine’s ambitious plans.” Scheffer said in an interview to “Izvestia in Ukraine.”

In response to the question, with what level of integration Ukraine will meet NATO 60th anniversary in 2009, Scheffer said: “I think that we will advance considerably in the way of realization of “Ukraine’s ambitious plans.” But, of course, this decision belongs to the Ukrainian people only.”

He expressed a hope that relations between NATO and Ukraine will become more mature and strong.
