Orthodox marks Pancake week

Pancake week, the last one before the Lent, has come. It also called Shrove tide.

It is forbidden to eat meat, but one can enjoy pans with caviar, bacon, honey and cottage cheese.

In Russia these days people used to visit guests, relatives, carry out fisticuff and mass festivals. It was obligatory to burn man of straw of Shrove tide.

Despite pagan origin of the fest this holiday ends in Christian way –blessing Sunday when one should forgive not only friends but foes.
