Russia interested in creating gas transportation consortium with Ukraine

Russia doesn't mind to create a gas transportation consortium with Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a Thursday annual press conference for Russian and foreign journalists, "Cabinet press office” informed.

"What the gas transportation consortium is concerned, we do not mind if the Ukrainian side returns to the issue," the Russian President said, having noted that the proposal of the Ukrainian side "is of a revolutionary nature", however it "is rather interesting".

According to the Russian Head of State, Russian governmental and presidential experts are now analyzing the idea of consortium establishment. At the same time Vladimir Putin stressed on the likelihood of uniting Ukrainian and Russian assets to this end. "There is no such practice, as a rule. But if we did that with our European partners (the German company BASF and the Italian ENI), why not doing it with Ukraine?," he said.

Putin said that there will be no obstacles at the Govt level, and details of the project will be discussed by experts. As he added, soon he means to meet with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych to discuss the likelihood of consortium creating.
